Call for artists: Sugarloaf Craft Festivals

Sugarloaf Craft Festivals, one of the nation’s most prominent and popular juried shows of fine art and crafts, is now accepting applications from artists and craftspeople in all media for its Fall 2012 shows.

Exhibition space is available at every show in all categories, including fiber and fashion, photography, fine art, furniture, ceramics and pottery, blown and leaded glass, jewelry, metal, leather, and functional and decorative wood. Jurying for the Fall 2012 shows begins in January 2012.

Shows for the Fall 2012 season of Sugarloaf Craft Festivals include:
October 5-7, 2012, Timonium, MD (outside Baltimore), Maryland State Fairgrounds
October 12-14, 2012, Gaithersburg, MD (outside Washington, D.C.), Montgomery County Fairgrounds
October 26-28, 2012, Somerset, NJ, Garden State Exhibition Center
November 2-4, 2012, Oaks, PA (outside Philadelphia), Greater Philadelphia Expo Center
November 16-18, 2012, Gaithersburg, MD (outside Washington, D.C.), Montgomery County Fairgrounds
December 7-9, 2012, Chantilly, VA (Northern Virginia), Dulles Expo Center

Now in its 37th year, attendance at Sugarloaf’s 11 shows increased by 6% in the past year, and at some shows by as much as 20%. Artist sales increased by an average of 3% from the previous year, with artists selling over $14.6 million in handmade items to more than 165,000 customers.

In 2011, nine of Sugarloaf’s shows were ranked in the “100 Best Classic and Contemporary Craft Shows” nationally by Sunshine Artist Magazine. Craft industry publications regularly rank Sugarloaf Craft Festivals among the top fine arts and crafts festivals in the country. Sugarloaf’s jury-selected artists are represented in the nation’s finest galleries, private collections, and museums.

Sugarloaf Craft Festivals supports its artists with an aggressive marketing and advertising program, the Sugarloaf “Caravan” which transports artists’ products and booths between shows, free VIP tickets for artists to distribute to their best customers, and discounts for artists at hotels convenient to show venues. Artists can receive discounts on booth fees with flexible payment options.

Open to any artist who works both as a clay artist and painter. Throughout the history of art many painters have discovered the pleasure of working with clay. These have included many eminent artists from the past including Picasso, Vlaminck, Gauguin, Matisse, and Jackson Pollock. This is a contemporary National Juried Show of current artists who work in both of these mediums. Each accepted artist is expected to show both a clay work and a painting.

Call for Artist in Residence: Harcourt House Artist Centre, Edmonton

Submission deadline: May 31, 2012 (Residency to Commence November 1, 2012) Harcourt House Artist Run Centre is currently accepting submissions for our 2012/ 2013 Artist in Residence (AIR). Awarded to artists annually through a peer jury selection process, this program is committed to providing the selected artistwith a year-long, dedicated studio environment at Harcourt House Artist Run Centre to research, develop and exhibit new work. This program allows for the Artist in Residence to engage and interact with the local visual arts community, encouraging shared ideas, expression and discourse. This one-year residency includes a studio space, access to our art education courses and facilities, teaching opportunities and a $150 monthly art supply stipend. The AIR will be given a solo exhibition in the centre’s Main Gallery at the end of the one-year term to conclude their residency. The AIR will receive CAR/FAC fees for the presentation of this final exhibition. We invite artists who are Canadian residents to submit a proposal before May 31, 2012. All disciplines are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be selected by the quality of work submitted, their demonstration of commitment to serious practice and how the residency will meet their objectives at this crucial juncture in the development of their practice. Proposal guidelines are as follows:
– 10-15 digital images of recent work
– C.V. – Artist statement
– Plan of activity for residency
– Demonstration of at least 2 years commitment to studio work outside of a post secondary institution
– 2 letters of reference from professionals in the arts community
**Short listed candidates will be interviewed as a part of the jury’s selection process. NOTE: Curriculum vitae (C.V.), artist statement, plan of activity and slide list must be submitted in hard copy AND digitally as a writable Word or Open Office document. Files must be Mac compatible. Call for entry – The 36th Annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show


2012 Craft Show The 36th Annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, a juried exhibition and retail sale, will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from November 8 to 11, 2012, with a preview party on November 7. The jury will accept 195 craft artists. The show serves as the Museum’s largest yearly fundraising event and is devoted to bringing wide public attention to the field of craft art. Cumulative 35-year contribution: $9.6+ million. Funds raised are used to purchase works of art and craft for the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, to support exhibitions and education programs and to contribute to conservation and publication projects. At the 2012 show, 18,686 visitors attended.

Application Deadlines and Fees

The non-refundable processing fee for applying electronically by April 1, 2012 is $50, payable online at the time you complete the application. The non-refundable processing fee for applying electronically between April 2, 2012 and April 12, 2012 is $75, payable online at the time you complete the application. The deadline for paper applications with slides is a March 16, 2012 postmark. The non-refundable processing fee for a paper application with slides is $90.00 (The additional $40 is for scanning slides and preparing a portfolio.) Call for artists: The Morristown CraftMarket, New Jersey

Deadline: April 1, 2012 The Morristown CraftMarket (www.morristowncraftmarket.org), one of the top juried fine crafts shows in the nation and a not-for-profit event sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Randolph, NJ, seeks artists to display and sell their work at this year’s show.

Now in its 36th consecutive year, the Morristown CraftMarket will run from Friday, October 19 through Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the National Guard Armory, 430 Western Avenue, Morristown, NJ.

The Morristown CraftMarket features 160 gifted artists from 25 states throughout the country who sell their original works in jewelry, ceramics, glass, wearable fiber, wood, metal, leather and more.
