residency opportunity: Countryside Residency for International Artists in Rome, Italy

Before you read this post I suggest you head over to the blog Culture Vulture with Residencies for a nice write up and personalized view of the residency experience.
: )

The
non-profit organization  ‘c.r.e.t.a. rome’ offers an international
self-funded residency program in the countryside of Rome, Italy. The Italian
word for clay seemed perfect to express the co-founders’ commitment to creating
an international reference point for ceramics and the arts in the eternal city
of Rome. Moreover, taken as an acronym, it spells out c.r.e.t.a. rome’s main
activities: ceramics, residencies, exhibitions, teaching and the arts.

The
residency in the countryside is still in Rome, but lies on the border with the
nearest town, Anguillara Sabazia,  one of three Medieval towns on the lake
of Bracciano. The nearest train station is 2,5km. away. We have two bikes
available for resident’s use. From the train station there are regular trains
that run to Rome in about 40 mins. There is also a shuttle bus from the train
station to the town of Anguillara on the lake, stopping along the way at
supermarkets, etc.
The
residency includes accommodation in a one-bedroom house with a garden complete
with fruit trees. This is a particularly good option for artists working on
collaborative projects or who seek tranquility for writing. Resident artists
can bring their spouses/companions and/or families (supplemental fee).
Residents
have a well-equipped private studio. For ceramic artists, there is access to
both electric and gas kilns, with options for reduction firing. We provide a
weekly shopping run, technical assistance in procuring materials, firings,
etc., advice on museums, galleries and sites in Rome and beyond.
Artists have the opportunity to focus on their art, whether
it be creating a new body of work, expanding a well-established oeuvre or
allowing themselves to draw inspiration from their surroundings and the
centuries of culture that define Italy. In addition, they will have access to
the wealth of galleries and exhibitions in Rome and beyond. Artists are
encouraged to submit a proposal for a final exhibition to display the work
created during the residency period. The final exhibition will be held in the c.r.e.t.a.
rome gallery in c.r.e.t.a. rome’s studio in the historical center of Rome, just
minutes from Piazza Venezia and the Capitoline museums on one side and the
Pantheon on the other.
We offer a number of additional perks such as help with travel
arrangements, such as airport pick-ups, museum reservations etc. We can also
arrange optional day-trips to museums and sites in Rome and beyond. If there
are workshops during the period of your residency, you will have an opportunity
to participate at a reduced rate.

movie day: Phenomenal

Phenomenal from R&A Collaborations on Vimeo.

Jin Eui Kim is a ceramic artist, originally
from South Korea. He graduated from Cardiff School of Art & Design
with a MA and PhD in Ceramics, during which time he studied the illusory
effects of application of black through to white to three-dimensional
surfaces.

Jin Eui explores in depth tonal effects and spatial illusions,
creating works that are both visually and intellectually challenging. He
makes both none-functional sculpture works of horizontal and vertical
cylinder forms and functional ware, applies the principles of creation
of illusory spatial phenomena such as gradient in tone and size of
bands. He also tries to understand more, the quality of clay and how it
can be combined with subtle variations of tone to create the illusory
spatial phenomena.
