Assistant Professor, tenure track, Area Coordinator of Ceramics Track

Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate B.F.A. (pending approval to begin fall semester 2010), B.S., B.A. majors and non-majors courses in ceramics. Advise majors in Art + Design with a track in ceramics. Teach in the M.F.A. program and serve on graduate committees. Build and maintain a strong record of creative activity on a regional, national, and international level. Participate in department, college, and University committees, as appointed. Oversee multiple spaces and equipment in ceramic facilities; submit recommendations for the ceramic track course schedules; and interview and recommend adjunct and part-time faculty.

Appointment:
Ten-month appointment with the possibility of teaching assignments in minimester and summer for additional compensation. This position is contingent on funds being available at the time of hire. This position requires a teaching load of 9 contact hours per semester during the first three years.

Qualifications:
M.F.A in ceramics, with knowledge of the history of ceramics, as well as ceramics viewed in a contemporary context. Must introduce and support a range of processes from traditional to new genre. The applicant needs to possess the ability to articulate best practices in teaching and art environmental health and safety, provide evidence of successful teaching and learning experiences, and have an active exhibition record. Interest in art and design collaborations, civic engagement, and grant writing is a plus.

The Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education enrolls approximately 750 art + design, art history, and art education undergraduate majors, 72 graduate students, and 100 minors. It also offers a variety of non-major studio courses for the general education core. The department shares programs in museum studies and graduate level art history with the College of Liberal Arts. The University, college, and department support international programs, interdisciplinary partnerships, service learning, and community-based art and design activities in Baltimore City and the region.

Red Lodge Clay Center is pleased to announce our search for a full time Gallery Coordinator. It is the gallery’s mission to create an appreciation of art through the exhibition and sale of contemporary ceramics.

The ideal candidate would have an extensive knowledge of contemporary ceramics, the ceramic medium, and previous gallery experience. Sales experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Strong office administration, business skills, and computer database knowledge are essential.

The Gallery Coordinator will curate and install gallery exhibitions; maintain gallery website; monitor inventory and sales; receive, pack and ship inventory; oversee resident assistants working in the gallery; facilitate public relations and advertising; and work with the Executive Director and Staff to develop programs to enhance the Center’s educational mission.

Starting annual salary $33,000 or commensurate with experience.

Boise State University is currently accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Ceramics beginning fall 2010. Boise State University’s ceramics program has a thriving and long standing history within the community at large. The program brings in nationally recognized ceramic visiting artists to the community for workshops and lectures.

You will have the opportunity to:
* Teach 3 courses each semester in all levels of undergraduate ceramics.
* Teach courses in undergraduate seminar and three-dimensional design on a rotating basis.
* Participate in a vibrant and growing MFA graduate program.
* Actively participate in departmental and university service including curriculum development.
* Maintain a strong national/international exhibition record.
* Provide supervision, maintenance, safety, improvement and efficacy of the ceramics facilities and program.

At a minimum you should have:
* MFA in Visual Art.
* Two years post-graduate teaching experience is preferred.
* Extensive knowledge in all the core methodologies, techniques and processes involved in ceramic art.

The preferred candidate will have:
* Distinguished research and professional experience in the medium, and within the larger framework of visual art.
* Extensive knowledge of historical and contemporary studies and practices that engage ceramics as a method of inquiry and visual communication.
* Developed educational strategies for providing meaningful professional and academic guidance to students engaged in the program, within the department and the field of visual art as a whole.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago seeks an exceptional artist for a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Ceramics, beginning Fall 2010. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience, teaching, and current professional status. The Ceramics Department is one of twenty departments at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The department is administered by a full-time faculty member as chair, and offers 25 undergraduate courses each academic year as part of the School’s comprehensive BFA program. Ceramics has 10 graduate students with studios in the department who work with faculty through Graduate Projects—individual tutorial sessions. There are currently two full-time senior faculty, a full-time visiting artist, and six part-time faculty. Qualifications: The successful candidate will be an accomplished, versatile artist with relevant teaching experience, and expertise in contemporary approaches, concepts, techniques, and critical issues as they pertain to ceramics and art in general. In a department dedicated to the innovation and investigation of ceramics in a contemporary art context, with teaching specialties ranging from vessels to designed objects and installations, we seek artists that embrace the contradictions of the medium to complement the current faculty’s wide range of traditional and new genre specializations. Areas of expertise might include: sculpture, architecture, ornamentation, utility and function, craft and objects, painting and ceramics, vessel making, 3-D digital fabrication/rapid prototyping, practical design/build techniques, traditional processes and/or emerging material processes, interest in digital technology, ceramics history and theory. Demonstrable skills and techniques will be thoroughly integrated into the conceptual frameworks of professional practice. Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate level ceramic classes and mentor students within the context of an interdisciplinary art and design school, maintain an active professional practice, and participate in the development of the department and in faculty governance of the School. The ability to communicate with students on multiple levels, and eagerness to teach and develop both graduate and undergraduate programs is essential. Call for Images – New book to be published.


Call For Submissions You are invited to submit high-resolution, high-quality, digital images to be considered for inclusion in The Slab Roller Book to be compiled and written by Daryl E. Baird, author of The Extruder Book (2000, The American Ceramic Society). Publication is targeted for July, 2011. The images you submit should be of finished ceramic art or functional objects that were substantially made with the use of a slab roller.

Submission Deadline: Your submission MUST be received by November 30, 2009.

Circle Craft Call for exhibitions

Applications for an exhibition are welcome from Circle Craft members and non-members working in British Columbia.The Gallery programme of ten shows between February and November is planned more than year in advance. We are currently accepting applications for 2011 shows. The deadline for applications is Dec 31, 2009. The Gallery Committee is responsible for selecting exhibitors. Commission on gallery sales is 40% for members and 45% for non-members.
