A little about me and my work….I got interested in clay at a very young age. My mom got me into some clay classes as early as 2nd grade and I’ve been making pots pretty much ever since. I got my BFA
in Ceramics at the University
of Iowa and am finishing up my MFA here in Texas. I work with cone 6
stoneware and porcelain and focus on making soft but structured forms
that are wheel thrown and altered. I have started introducing imagery
from my suburban childhood onto the surfaces
of my work using hand cut stencils and stamps. My aim is to create a
subtle narrative and loosely constructed spaces in order to bring to
mind memories of childhood, suburbia and home.

RDC has a
state of the art ceramics facility where the tech is provided with an
office/studio space. The well equipped Ceramics studio has high-fire
electric kilns, two Bailey gas kilns, a Bourry box wood kiln and a
wood-fired salt kiln.
This is a great opportunity to work within the creative and stimulating environment and
state of the art facilities of the Red Deer College Visual Art program. As the Ceramics
Technician, you will support both the Credit and Continuing Education Visual Art programs.
You will provide full technical support for students and instructors in ceramics. Duties
include preparation for, and assistance with, classes; monitoring supplies; and ensuring
safety standards are met. You will achieve results through effective utilization of strong
technical and communication skills. You will consistently exhibit the ability to multi-task and
prioritize large workload demands from all areas of the department. In the credit program, you will oversee studio processes as well as the capital and operational inventory of the
Ceramics Studio. For Continuing Education, you will provide occasional technical and
materials support for non-credit programming.
You can go to the Red Deer College website: www.rdc.ab.ca and click on Employment, then non-instructional to see the posting and apply on-line.
Or use this url:employment.rdc.ab.ca/applicants/Central?quickFind=51676

My
name is Kim Luther and I am a Ceramics Grad at Indiana
University-Bloomington. Currently, I am researching
hysteria; how it has been depicted in art, contrived and medicated by
men and how that is still seen in our culture today wether referenced in
music and cinema or politics. I have also done some photography with
clay that was more about filling voids, space and female relationships
(mother/daughter or sister).
Want
to be featured as an emerging artist on musing? All you have to do is
send me some images, a brief write up if you’d like, and a
website if you have it to [email protected] If you could put emerging
artist in the subject header of the email so it doesn’t get lost in my
spam folder that would be great. Thanks!
