Craft Cubed is a new national event presented by Craft Victoria. This annual festival promotes experimental, skilled and ideas-based craft and design. It will provide a platform for conversation and exchange across all spectrums of the craft and design communities. A key feature of the event is the thematic linking of current craft trends among local, national and international practitioners.
There are three components to Craft Cubed:
WHITE BOX showcases 50 international design projects in a virtual format.
PERSPECTIVE is a curated exhibition of 50 new works by Craft Victoria’s Professional Members.
PROGRAMS include professional development opportunities, satellite exhibitions and open studios.
2009 THEME
Craft Cubed provides artists with an opportunity to generate new work in response to the 2009 festival theme CITY|COUNTRY. Local geographical boundaries have shifted dramatically in recent times. Populations are literally moving, profoundly effecting the environment, public space, urban planning and design. What are the ramifications of these changes in geographical composition? How is contemporary craft and design influencing these new forms of spatial engagement? Is craft production being affected by the new societies?
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
In 2009 Craft Cubed will run 1 August – 12 September. Submissions are now being sought for WHITE BOX and PERSPECTIVE in response to the theme CITY|COUNTRY. The submission deadline for both projects is Tuesday 30 June 2009.
