The Art League is pleased to present 100.Tea.Bowls in collaboration with the ceramic artists of the Torpedo Factory. 100.Tea.Bowls invites artists to create a harmonious composition through the tea bowl clay form. Juror Ceramic artist Terry Gess—Mr. Gess has received international awards and recognition for his work. He was invited to live and work in a teapot factory in the People’s Republic of China, collaborating with a master Chinese potter in the development of new teapots. His formal education includes study at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and Penland School of Crafts.

The XXIst International Biennale of Vallauris
Vallauris, France
The XXIst International Biennale of Vallauris will take place from July to November 2010. As part of this Biennale, a competition, reserved for members of the European Union, is being organized under the aegis of the Municipality of Vallauris Golfe-Juan by a Committee of the Biennale meeting at the town hall. Any artist presenting completely new work may take part. For 2010, there are three sections: The Container, Design, – Architectural/ Sculptural/ Conceptual Ceramics
Each participant may present one work per section or two works if he registers for only one section. The prizes will be the Grand Prize of the Town of Vallauris of an amount of € 15,000 and one prize per section of an amount of € 5,000. Various others prizes will be awarded, including among others, a special “Under thirty-five years old” prize (on January 1st 2008). Deadline for application: 31st of December 2009.

The Artery, home of the Artists’ Cooperative of Davis, announces a call to artists for the 2010 California Clay Competition. The Artery has sponsored the Competition since 1990 to give California ceramic artists an opportunity to display their work during the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art. The competition is open to all California residents. Works accepted must be for sale, available for the duration of the exhibit, and made within the last two years. This year’s juror is SJSU Professor Stan Welsh. Mr. Welsh holds a MFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred, NY. Currently, he is professor in Spatial/Ceramics at San Jose State University in San Jose, CA. Artworks must be made of clay; or mixed media, with clay being the major emphasis of the work. Functional as well as sculptural forms are solicited. The work must fit through a standard door-frame and weigh no more than can be easily handled by two people. Wall pieces should be ready to hang using wire and/or cleats. Space is limited; approximately 35 works will be accepted from an expected 400 entries. Monetary and gift awards will be announced at the opening reception. Entry fee. The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation: 2010 Emerging Artist Awards
Deadline for application: February 15
The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation has established a program of awards for emerging artists to support and encourage promising artists, early in their careers, while also serving to raise the profile of the arts in Alberta. The Awards are awarded every second year, beginning in 2008. Each Award consists of $10,000 and a medallion. Up to ten prizes may be awarded in each awards cycle.
Award recipients are selected by an application and adjudication process. Emerging Alberta Artists who meet the eligibility criteria may make application for the Award. Appraisals are required from two established artists who are in a position to provide the Foundation with a candid assessment of the Applicant’s current accomplishments and potential to develop.
Dawn Detarando, with appraisal support from the Alberta Craft Council, was a recipient of an emerging artist award in 2008.

Exhibition Dates: March 2–16, 2010
Open to all craft media focusing on the theme of fun, wild ‘n wacky teapots, sugar & creamers, tea cups, sandwich plates, spoons, forks, knives and cake platters. Mad Hatter’s Tea-Party is open to all artists in the United States and its territories. Works must not exceed 36 inches or 90cm in any direction. Artwork entered should not be so fragile that shipment of public display is potentially harmful to the work or viewer. Art must be properly prepared and presented for display.
Accepted artwork which differs greatly from the slides may be disqualified. No accepted entry may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition. CDs of accepted work will become the property of the Armory Art Center. This is an open jurying and all slides are viewed anonymously. All accepted work must be available for sale.
The Artist will receive 50% of the retail price of all works sold. Proceeds from the Mad Hatter’s Tea-Party will benefit the Artists-in-Residence Program at the Armory Art Center. The Western Colorado Center for the Arts will present a juried/ invitational competition of ceramic artists from across the country.
Exhibition dates are May 14th – June 26th 2010
Deadline for entry is January 18, 2010.
Juror will be Pete Pinnell.
This exhibition is open to all clay artists residing in the U.S.
Artists may enter up to three works, which use clay as the focus material. Works must not exceed 48 inches in any dimension (exceptions will be handled on a case by case basis). Works must have been executed over the last two years and not have been previously exhibited at this location. Artwork entered should not be so fragile that shipment or public display is harmful to the work or the viewer. Accepted work which differs significantly from the submitted images will be disqualified from the exhibition. No accepted entry may be withdrawn prior to the closing date of the exhibition.
This is an open jurying: all images are viewed in an anonymous manner. The Art Center encourages all works to be for sale. Artwork must not be sold prior to shipment to The Art Center unless “NFS” is clearly stated on the entry form.
