MONOCHROME An International Competitive Exhibit of Works Utilizing ONE COLOR
Postmark Deadline for Entry: August 28, 2009
Sometimes you can say more by saying less. Many artists find that the intentional reduction of visual information actually increases a work of art’s impact. One such reduction is the use of color, creating engaging art through the use of a single hue. Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center is proud to announce the start of its 6th season with the exhibit Monochrome.
Eligibility: MONOCHROME is open to everyone. Professionals as well as students are encouraged to enter. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works of art or design and address the theme of ‘monochrome’ in some way. The ‘chroma’ that is ‘mono’ is, of course, up to each artist. The color need not be the primary content of the work of art. The limited pallet must simply be a factor in the realization of the work, whatever form it may take. Manifest is open to artists’ interpretation of the exact definition of ‘monochrome’.
Media: Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media, including but not limited to: sculpture, video, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, collage, ceramics, etc. Abstraction, realism, conceptual work, installation, etc., are all potentially viable for this exhibit.
Jury and Curator: Manifest’s selection process involves a complex two-part system. This exhibit will be juried by a 5-7 member panel of professional and academic advisors with a broad range of expertise. The jury will then pass along their recommendations to the exhibit curator who will make the final selections from the jury-approved pool.
Catalog: Manifest will produce a full-color catalog documenting the work selected for exhibit. Exhibitors will receive a 50% discount on one copy of the catalog. For examples of past catalogs visit Manifest Press. Discounted price is only valid through the close of the exhibition. For all the entry detail see their website here.
