BAZAART is Saskatchewan’s largest outdoor Arts and Crafts Show & Sale. The goal of BAZAART is to showcase innovative and excellent Canadian artists who excel in their chosen medium. Organized by the MacKenzie Art Gallery as an annual fundraiser, BAZAART attracts more than 7,500 attendees each year. Attendance supports educational programming at the MacKenzie Art Gallery as well as contributes to the maintenance of FREE admission to our exhibition spaces. This year’s BAZAART, our 37th, will focus on the handmade and locally produced aspect of the items in our Show & Sale. We will encourage our attendees to SHOP LOCAL and contribute to the sustainability of independent artists and craftspeople by purchasing stylish, practical and unique alternatives to mass-produced items.

Call to Artists: NSCAD University is looking for Sessional Faculty, Nova Scotia

The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD University), founded in Halifax in 1887, is one of North America’s outstanding institutions for the study, practice, and teaching of art, craft and design. One of Canada’s oldest independent cultural institutions, NSCAD University continues to be regarded as a principal center for education and research in visual culture in North America.

NSCAD welcomes applications to fill various temporary faculty positions for the 2010-2011 year. Offerings may be for the Fall and/or Winter semesters of 2010-2011. Our academic year starts at the beginning of September with the Fall 2010 semester and ends with the Winter semester of 2011 at the end of April. Sessional faculty must be on campus at least 7 days prior to the commencement of the Fall term.

Qualifications: Studio Based courses require: an MFA/MDes or equivalent combination of experience/qualification, an active studio practice and/or substantial professional practice and post-secondary teaching experience. Liberal Studies courses require: a Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree, a strong research and publication record and/or creative practice, a sound knowledge of critical theories and methodologies, a sound understanding of studio based art and design education and a preferred minimum of three (3) years of post-secondary teaching experience. Salary will be dependent upon qualifications and in accordance with the Faculty Salary Grid.

All application materials are due in the Office of Academic Affairs by 4:00 PM February 20, 2010 All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. Hiring will be in accordance with NSCAD University’s policy on non-discrimination.

The application must include the following: curriculum vitae that lists the actual length of time that each course has been taught; a portfolio with 20 examples of your work, in digital formats (JPEG’s and PDFs are preferred), and the names and contact information of three references. The University will seek permission from the applicant before contacting the referees. Other support documentation, such as evidence of teaching effectiveness, course outlines, project briefs, a statement of teaching philosophy, and/or an outline of research interests, is also welcome.

Call for Entry – KC Clay Guild Tea Bowl National

KC Clay Guild is hosting the 2010 Tea Bowl National. Artist applicants must be at least 18 years of age and reside in the United States to participate. Entry fee is $30 for up to three works per artist. Works must have been completed within the last two years. Work must reflect the theme of the show…tea bowls. Work must not exceed 12” in any direction. All pieces must be for sale. KCCG will retain a 40% commission on any sold artwork. The artist will receive 60% of the sale price. Juror: Peter Pinnell, Professor of Art, University of Nebraska, Lincoln. There will be at least $1000.00 in prize money awarded to “Best in Show”, 1st and 2nd runners up. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: 2010 SOBEY ART AWARD

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: MARCH 1, 2010
ELIGIBILITY: CANADIAN ARTISTS UNDER 40
The 2010 Sobey Art Award is officially accepting nominations for this year’s prize. The $50,000 award is Canada’s premier visual art award given annually to a Canadian artist under 40 who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated. The five finalists of the 2010 Award will be announced in June, 2010. Selected work from the shortlisted artists will be featured in an exhibition hosted by the Musée d’art contemporain in Montreal from October 8, 2010 to January 3, 2011. The winner of the 2010 Sobey Art Award will be announced during a gala event at the Musée d’art contemporain in November 2010. The 2010 curatorial advisory panel is made up of five distinguished representatives from a Canadian art gallery in each of the five regions: the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies and the North, and the West Coast and Yukon. Residency Opportunity – Archie Bray

Applications for residencies are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed once a year. To be considered, applications for short-term or year-long residencies must be received at the Bray no later than March 1, 2010. (The deadline to apply for a fellowship is also March 1.)

  1. Full-time Resident with/without Fellowship (1-2 years)
