person that is motivated toward evolving his/her own personal ceramic
work, as well as to gain experience as a university ceramics studio
manager and instructor.
Responsibilities: Selected person should
be capable of performing all duties required to maintain and manage the
following: gas and electric kilns, pottery wheels, clay and glaze
making equipment and materials, studio supplies, inventory, and studio
order and cleanliness. Assisting ceramics emphasis students. May involve
teaching one ceramics course per semester, depending on student demand.

The IU Southeast Fine Art Program is seeking
an outstanding artist/educator for a one semester sabbatical replacement
in the Ceramics Area at the Visiting Assistant Professor rank for the
Fall 2014 semester. The person hired will be retained for the Spring
2015 semester as a resident artist and Adjunct Faculty.
Responsibilities
will include teaching all levels of ceramics, management of the
ceramics studio, and involvement in various Fine Art Program service
commitments, such as BFA critiques, student exhibitions, Program
meetings, and other responsibilities as they arise. It is also expected
that the person hired will be an active presence in the Ceramics studio
and work alongside the other faculty and students in the IUS Fine Art
Program.
The position requires an active exhibition record and
competence in a wide range of ceramic processes. The ideal candidate
will have a strong foundation in ceramic methods of construction, varied
conceptual approaches in the field, be well versed in interdisciplinary
approaches, and have a broad understanding of new approaches to art
making.
Salary is commensurate with experience, up to $28,000
for the Fall semester. Adjunct pay for the Spring semester is $3,025
per studio course, with a maximum of two courses available.
Clay,
glazes, and firing will be provided within reason. A 90 sq. ft. studio
in the ceramics area with a locking door will be provided along with
24/7 building access. Additionally, an NCECA pass to the 2015
conference will be provided.
The IU Southeast Ceramics studio consists of:
– 3,000 square feet of studio and workspace.
– computer controlled, gas, Bailey car kiln.
– gas test kiln.
– 4 computer controlled electric kilns (Skutt and L&L).
– covered outdoor kiln pad with a wood kiln, raku kiln, and test kilns.
– a large Soldner mixer, a Bluebird mixer, and a Walker pug mill.
– plaster mixing and mixed media work area with plaster mold dryer.
– experimental exhibition and installation space (The SpaceLab).
– comprehensive glaze mixing room.
Qualifications: MFA degree required. An active current professional practice and exhibition record is also required.
