Posted Date: 1/22/2011 Annual Salary: $45,000 Start date: Aug. 15, 2011 Description: The University of Arkansas is seeking an active studio artist and teacher in the field of ceramics for a non-tenure track position, with the possibility of renewal. Applicants should have a strong commitment to an expanded definition of ceramics, embracing contemporary and traditional techniques from utilitarian pottery to conceptual installation. Applicant should also have a strong background in three-dimensional design and an interest in curriculum development. Requirements:

  • MFA degree with demonstrated professional achievement in the field of Ceramics
  • College teaching experience
  • Broad knowledge of historical and contemporary aspects of ceramics, art, and theory
  • Experience in most ceramic techniques including wheel, hand building, and mold making/slip casting
  • Experience in three dimensional design techniques including woodshop and mixed media building processes
  • Knowledge of low to high-fire materials and firing of electric, gas, and atmospheric kilns
  • Commitment to community outreach and student mentoring

Job Duties: Teach two classes per-semester, supervise graduate students and adjunct faculty teaching three-dimensional design courses, work with graduate students and advanced ceramics students, manage ceramics studio and equipment, including supervising graduate assistants, and maintain an active research record. 7th International Biennale of Ceramics, Inside Out, presented by the City of Kapfenberg, Austria

Open to all artistic forms of expression concerning the use of ceramics – with the exclusion of china, serially manufactured objects and ceramic design. A maximum of three works are allowed to be entered to the competition. The works must not exceed the age limit of two years and they have to correspond to the motto of the Biennale of Ceramics 2011. Only works that have never been entered to take part at any other competition are accepted. The dimensions of the objects entered have to be of reasonable size, height and weight. In other words, an exhibition at the gallery of the Cultural Center should not take extraordinary efforts for the should not take extraordinary efforts for the organizers. Digital photographs of the works are required. Please take the pictures in front of neutral background. The photographs have to be sent via CD ROM, DVD or USB Stick. A resolution of at least 300dpi is required. Please take the pictures of each work from at least two different angles and name it with the exact title. Ceramics Monthly, Emerging Artists 2011, call for submissions

In May 2011, Ceramics Monthly will feature the works of emerging clay artists. Those actively pursuing a career in ceramics for less than ten years are eligible. To be considered, submit the following:
-Up to five professional-quality digital images (300 ppi resolution on a CD, plus a full-size color print of each image), with complete descriptions of works.
