Craft NI is now inviting proposals for its annual, selected exhibitions programme 2011-12 from craftspeople, designer-maker, curators, craft networks and retail outlets.
The Craft NI gallery is a showcase platform for displays and exhibitions of quality contemporary craft. Through an annually selected exhibitions programme, Craft NI offers year round access to displays and exhibitions of quality contemporary craft in the centre of Belfast. The ground floor gallery is housed in the historic Cotton Court building, a former Bonded Warehouse and is conveniently located opposite the Merchant Hotel in the heart of
Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.
Each year Craft NI invites designer-makers, craftspeople, curators, craft organisations and retail outlets to submit exhibition proposals for an annual programme of exhibitions at the gallery. Normally, exhibitions run for two months. A craft curator selects exhibitions on the basis of proposals submitted to Craft NI and on our general quality criteria. Work will be selected for display by an independent panel on the basis of the exhibition proposal and Craft NI’s general quality criteria.
By this, Craft Northern Ireland means contemporary work that:
- extends practice as well as ensuring high standards of technical skill and design;
- does not reproduce or restore but is innovative in its use of materials and aesthetic vision;
- reflects the signature of the individual maker and demonstrates investigation of processes and critical enquiry.

Now in its 50th year, the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition [TOAE] is a juried showcase featuring contemporary fine art and craft that takes place annually on Nathan Phillips Square, every July.
As the largest outdoor art exhibition in Canada, TOAE offers a fresh-air alternative to conventional art shows and galleries. Hundreds of artists participate and an estimated 100,000 visitors attend the exhibition every year. Side by side, established artists, undiscovered talents and innovative students sell their work directly to the public and make lasting connections with art dealers and collectors.
In 2010, the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition’s award program presented over $30,000 in cash awards and prizes to participating artists.
The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition is a charitable, non-profit organization supported by a group of volunteers active in the art and corporate communities. The exhibition is financed through registration fees, and by government, corporate and individual sponsors, enabling the TOAE to charge one of the lowest registration fees in North America. DownStreet Art is pleased to announce a call for artists and curators for the 2011 season. This is a great opportunity to have your work/project showcased in an art-friendly community, to be in touch with artists, curators, and professionals in the art world, and to be part of a larger discourse about contemporary art. Opportunities are many, so please read details carefully and fill the application accordingly to your needs. DownStreet Art welcomes any form of art and any art work team. If you are a duo/trio or a group of artists willing to show together please apply! DownStreet Art 2011 will run from June 23rd till October 11th (Columbus Day Weekend). It will begin with a kick-off celebration on June 23rd and will hold four “DownStreet Art Thursdays” (with all galleries hosting opening receptions and downtown performances); and it will all culminate in North Adams Open Studios weekend on October 11th. Please note that as a public art project, DownStreet Art is dependent on available/empty spaces, sufficient funding and adequate staffing. The Saskatchewan Craft Council (SCC) is seeking a dynamic individual for the position Member Services Co‐ordinator. The position will be becoming vacant as a result of a retirement. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting Saskatchewan’s professional craft artists with marketing and sales opportunities. Specific duties include:
- Taking the lead role in organizing 4 major craft markets annually,
- Generating niche sales and marketing opportunities,
- Overseeing the operations of SCC juries which are designed to guarantee excellence in craft at SCC markets, and
- Maintaining active communications with all SCC members.
Qualifications: Required:
- Marketing degree or BA and marketing with special events experience, or equivalent education and/or experience
- Basic knowledge of cultural industries or of the craft community
- Good word processing skills with database knowledge
- Good written communication skills and excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent problem solving and decision making skills required
- Valid driver’s license
- Applicable portfolio
- Three years business or retail experience (preferred)
- Experience in public relations with the volunteer sector and with special event coordination, including media interviews (Asset)
- Good physical condition: occasional lifting of boxes and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds/23 kilograms; requires bending, stooping, walking and standing for long periods of time.
- Position requires occasional evening and weekend work.
The position is based in Saskatoon, and entails some travel. The position is a unionized in‐scope position (SGEU) and has a comprehensive benefits package. Wages are as per the collective bargaining agreement (under negotiation). The position has a 35 hour per work schedule, with some flexibility in hours possible.
