As part of its continuing initiative to support the arts, Skywards, Emirates award-winning frequent flyer programme, is searching for emerging artists. Whether a young art student just entering the field or an experienced artist who has never exhibited their work, Skywards wants to give artists worldwide the opportunity to showcase their work. The competition is open to all artists, regardless of medium: sculpture, photography and paintings are welcome.Three winning entries will be chosen and the image of the selected artwork will be used on the Skywards membership cards in 2012, as well as in all supporting online and offline communications and promotional material. In addition to the year-long global exposure of their art and name on the Skywards membership cards, the three winners will receive a commission of US$5000 and will be flown to Dubai in order to display their work at the Art Dubai. Art Dubai is the leading contemporary art fair in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia and is attended by art critics, collectors and gallery owners from around the world.Judging will be conducted by a panel of highly regarded industry professionals, experts, and Skywards members and will look for creative merit, technical excellence and suitability for end use.Details on the competition can be found at www.skywardsfutureartists.com The deadline for submitting artwork is July 14, 2011.

Jonathan Watkins (Chair), Director of Ikon Gallery, Birmingham The Daiwa Foundation Art Prize is an open submission prize which offers a British artist a first solo exhibition in Japan. In its inaugural year, the prize resulted in a solo show at the Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo for Marcus Coates. Scai the Bathhouse in Tokyo will be the partner organisation for the 2012 exhibition. In addition, the winner will be awarded a £5,000 participation fee plus travel and accommodation costs for a 7 day period in Japan to coincide with the opening of the exhibition in Autumn 2012. The Prize is open to British artists resident in the UK who have neither had nor are planning a solo exhibition in Japan. The Prize is open to artists working in any medium including painting, photography, print, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, installation and moving image.
