Introducing Elaine Bradley, an emerging practitioner from the latest crop of talent fresh from The Australian National University School. Elaine Bradley’s work will feature in Harvest – a series of award exhibitions in Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre’s Crucible Showcases.
Elaine Bradley creates contemporary ceramic works utilizing a range of techniques. She incorporates wheelthrowing, handbuilding, and industrial processes, and creates her work within the confines of a tiny studio. Her simple forms are embellished with meditative motifs that relate to her own experiences. She explains that she is process driven, articulating that the journey of being a maker is as important to her as the destination.
The exhibition will be officially opened by guest speaker Emeritus Professor David Williams AM, Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre Patron, at 6.pm Thursday 18 August 2011.
Harvest continues until Saturday 24 September 2011 in the Centre’s Crucible Showcases, Level 1 North Building, 180 London Circuit, Canberra City.
Harvest provides assistance for graduating artists and designer makers of local tertiary institutions at the beginning of their independent studio practice. This opportunity to exhibit also encourages emerging practitioners to remain in the region, staying connected with local art, craft and design organisations, such as Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre, who strive to promote, support and assist practitioners throughout their careers.
Throughout 2011 Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre will celebrate its 40th birthday, and to commemorate this significant event an unprecedented number of emerging artist awards have been presented to recent graduates. The eight recipients in 2011 are Hannah Dalrymple, Kimberley Dixon, Dierdre Pearce, Annabelle Davidson, Elaine Bradley, Marco Chan, Edward College and George Thompson.
Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is open Tuesday to Friday 10.am to 5.pm and Saturday 12.pm to 4.pm.
