IU Southeast seeks an outstanding artist/educator for a full time ten-month appointment of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning August 2011. This position is a one-year appointment with possibility of renewal. The position requires competence in a wide range of drawing processes/techniques with a secondary emphasis in either ceramics or painting. The successful candidate will teach drawing from beginning to advanced levels, and possibly entry-level courses in color and painting or ceramics, depending on area of expertise.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in representational drawing with conceptually interdisciplinary ideas, will be knowledgeable about contemporary art issues and theory, and will have a broad understanding of new approaches to art making. Applicants must demonstrate strong teaching skills and a broad range of knowledge in drawing (material, technique, form, and content).
This position will require: (1) assessing, advising and mentoring students; (2) participating in recruitment, retention and promotion of the IU Southeast Fine Arts program; (3) maintaining studio facilities; (4) participating in program/school/campus service and student activities and performing related professional duties; (5) maintaining an active professional practice and exhibition record in addition to displaying a commitment to teaching at the University level (6) working collegially with diverse points of view to make decisions.
Qualifications:
MFA degree and graduate TA teaching experience required. At least two years of teaching experience at the college-level beyond graduate assistantships is preferred. An active current professional practice and exhibition record is also required.
