Materia Craft Artist-Run Centre Exhibition Gallery, Quebec MATERIA is an artist-run centre in the field of handcrafted art objects whose mandate is to disseminate and promote artistic enquiry and creation both nationally and abroad. Submissions should include:

  • An artist’s statement
  • A project description
  • A recent CV (maximum 3 pages)
  • Slides of recent work (from 5 to 10 images) and/or
  • Photographs on CD (jpg) Your submission may include both high resolution files (300 dpi, 5 inches x 7 inches) and low resolution files (72 dpi, 1024 x 768 pixels)
  • Any other relevant document, such as a sketch, DVD, etc.

Appalachian Center for Craft – AIR opportunity

Description

The Artist in Residence (AIR) program is a one- to three-year appointment allowing emerging professional artists to work in the environment of the Craft Center. Each studio (clay, fibers, glass, metals and wood) has a resident artist with a BFA, MFA or professional equivalent. There is also a residency position for the exhibitions program. The AIR program has a competitive application process to fill these six positions. The Artists in Residence come from all over the country and abroad to live and work at the Craft Center.

Private bedroom and bath (cooking and living room areas shared with other residents) and individual studio space with 24-hour studio access.

Location

The Craft Center is approximately 60 miles east of Nashville and 120 miles west of Knoxville; and only 25 miles west of TTU’s main campus in Cookeville.

Application Criteria

Applicants must have a minimum of a BFA degree or equivalent. The selection process will consider the candidate’s potential artistic and professional growth within the residency, technical skills in studio and equipment maintenance, and potential for instructional support.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: LA CENTRALE GALERIE POWERHOUSE, QUEBEC

DEADLINES : MARCH 15 & OCTOBER 15 of every year Growing out of the feminist art movement and founded in 1973, La Centrale galerie Powerhouse is one of the oldest artist-run centers in Quebec. The center’s mandate expands on a history of feminist art practices and engages a broader spectrum of underrepresented artists and their initiatives within established art institutions. The gallery aims to provide a platform for contemporary art informed by feminist and gender theory, as well as intercultural and transdisciplinary practices. This involves networking and developing professional exchanges at the local, national and international levels. We promote the work of artists at all stages of their careers to allow for intergenerational dialogue. The programming and events at the gallery are a reflection of our members and their interests and involvements. Please include the following with your application :

  • A curriculum vitæ
  • A project proposal including artist statement and description of technical requirements (500 words maximum)
  • Visual and audio support material for your proposal (Mac OSX compatible CD or DVD)
  • Visual documentation (if applicable),10 to 15 digital photos
  • Video documentation (if applicable), NTSC VHS or DVD only
  • Soundtrack (if applicable)
  • Interactive digital or web-based project (if applicable), website , interactive portfolio, digital slideshow, digital video, Quicktime or Flash movie, or other digital material
  • A list describing all your support material and visual documentation including dimensions of work, media, title and year of production
  • A press kit (if applicable)
  • SASE for the return of your support material (All applications without SASEs will be available for pick-up during gallery hours for no longer than 3 months after the Programming Committee’s final decision and response)

Medalta day 5

Almost supper time and I’m feeling a bit behind. Today was not terribly productive in terms of physical work that I wanted to get accomplished, but it has been an incredibly thought provoking day with many chats around the studio which are making my brain buzz. Dialogues on functionality, grad school, audience, expectations, reasoning and justification for making art. Far too complex to summarize in any cohesive manner, I guess you just had to be here…

Here’s hoping this evening is a bit more hands on productive for me. Another late night I guess (not that I’m complaining – it’s been glorious to work 14 hour days!) In the meantime here’s some pics of Robin and Paul working away.
