Art Kudos is an annual international juried competition that serves to recognize and honor excellence in the visual arts. Artists who are selected as finalists benefit from world-wide exposure in a year-long online exhibition (www.artkudos.com) and have the opportunity to win cash awards for their exemplary work.
A total of $4,500 will be awarded: Best of Show – $1,400; Second Place – $1100; Third Place – $750; Founder’s Award of Distinction – $500; (3) Merit Awards – $250 each.
Each year a distinguished art professional is chosen to serve as juror of awards and to ensure a diverse range of perspectives and expertise. We are very pleased to have Mitchell Albala serving as juror of awards for the 2010 exhibition. Mitchell Albala teaches landscape painting at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle. A respected and dedicated teaching artist for more than 20 years, he is best known for his atmospheric and semi abstract landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. He has lectured on Impressionism at the Seattle Art Museum and written about landscape painting for American Artist Magazine. He is also the author of Landscape Painting: Essential Concepts and Techniques for Plein Air and Studio Practice, published by Watson-Guptill in 2009. As a professional artist he exhibits his paintings nationally and is represented by Lisa Harris Gallery in Seattle.
The Art Kudos competition is sponsored by Artshow.com, a company that offers web-based services and resources for artists and arts organizations.

I realize it’s been a while since I actually wrote anything on the blog other than calls for entry. So much for the new years resolution, I know. Since getting back from setting up and opening my exhibition in Quebec at Centre Materia, it’s been a whirlwind of productivity around here.
See i signed myself up to do four sales in two months. I know not much for some market professionals, but for a novice like me, well there’s been a learning curve to say the least. So i’ve been in the studio focusing on my more commercial line of functional wares. It’s been a ton of fun though too.
Not too much to share in that vein, but if you haven’t heard yet I’m heading off to Medicine Hat for a residency for the month of July and will be elbow deep in some more figurative pieces so keep your eyes peeled for that. I hope to do a bit more writing about process and technique and give you some behind the scenes glimpses as well.
In the meantime here’s a few pics of the last kiln load of functional work ready for sale.

$450 for a three day workshop Using simple three dimensional forms students will explore composition and drawing on the form, taking into consideration all aspects of the three dimensional surface and not be limited by edges and boundaries. Diana’s daily demonstrations will include using molds to build simple forms, surface applications such as layering of slips and underglazes to create rich fields of color, drawing on and in the clay, the use of oxides, firing and tips and tricks to obtaining clean crisp lines in clay. Diana will also discuss and demonstrate other ceramic mediums and processes to create rich and interesting surfaces on your three dimensional forms, using things like cardboard letter stencils and old letterpress typeface, as well as how to transfer your images onto clay surfaces without sophisticated drawing skills. During her demonstrations, Diana will discuss elements of design, how to push the boundaries and see your pieces as limitless surfaces for expressing your visual ideas.Details of workshop here.
