Becky Webster @ Harbinger Gallery

Harbinger Gallery is excited to present a feature of new ceramics by artist, Becky Webster. Webster’s work fleshes out her interests in showing both the raw beauty of natural, unglazed clay and the layers of patterns and images juxtaposed on her clay works. The thick, drawing-like transparent glazes found on parts of Websters works is part of what gives them “personality”, while “…keeping in focus with the functionality and craftsmanship” of each piece.

Becky Webster graduated in 2001, majoring in ceramics in the Craft and Design program at Sheridan College, in Oakville, Ontario. Upon graduation, Webster set up studio practice and also began a managerial position at S&S Pottery Supplies, a position she maintains today. In addition to being included in a Harbinger group exhibition of clay in 2008, Becky has recently had a solo exhibition and has been featured in the “Canadian House and Home” magazine. Her work can be found in galleries all over Ontario.

Associates Positions Available for 2010

JamFactory is Australia’s leading contemporary craft and design centre providing emerging craftspeople and designer/makers with unique professional and creative development opportunities.

JamFactory’s two-year practical studio based program provides emerging craftspeople and designer-makers with professional and creative development opportunities unavailable anywhere else in Australia.

Participants in the scheme are referred to as “Associates” and work under guidance of experienced Creative Directors and Studio staff . Studios provide an environment in which Associates explore creative ideas and hone their technical and making skills while acquiring business and marketing expertise necessary to establish financially and culturally viable careers in craft and design.

Associates work alongside peers in developing production ideas and designs, creating one-off and exhibition work and participating in commissions. Associates have access to a full range of studio equipment. The Associate experience equips craft practitioners with the skills and understanding needed to underpin successful independent practice.

Associates are selected once a year from applicants received from all over Australia and the world with the aim of creating studio teams with a strong focus on development of ideas, creativity and making skills. Applicants will typically be high achieving tertiary graduates with visual art or design degrees, or emerging practitioners with demonstrated skills and abilities.
