POT is the first full service community pottery studio that is owned, operated by, and intended for people of color. Established in 2017, our mission is to create pleasure, community, and new career paths for POC in pottery. We offer classes, memberships, career training, sliding scale pricing, community programming, and even free workshops for our communities.
This pandemic has been really hard on small business brick & mortars, and given that we have two, we are double feeling it. We cannot afford the staffing it takes two run two studios while operating at 20% capacity. We’ve tried our best to stay afloat on our own, but we’ve exhausted all we have and cannot sustain like this through extended closures. So we’re asking for help to get us through the next 6 months.
During this time we will continue to work hard within the parameters of what is COVID-compliant and safest for our staff and community. All the money we make will go towards JOBS; both payroll and hiring the hands we need.
Our goal is to keep POT alive so that we can keep our studios and team and continue to serve our communities.
IF YOU WANT YOUR DONATION TO BE TAX DEDUCTIBLE, DONATE THROUGH OUR WEBSITE DIRECTLY FOR A TAX DEDUCTIBLE RECEIPT (Donations made here through GoFundMe are not tax deductible)
If you have lost employment or are hard up on money, please don’t feel pressure to donate. You are who we are here to serve. Simply sharing and spreading word is help enough and we really appreciate it.
This ask is for those who can afford it, organizations who want to see us survive, and for the larger pottery community.
The money will go directly to covering the following for 6 months:
– Rent (for TWO studios)
– Cleaning Service (COVID-compliant for TWO studios)
– Utilities (Includes water, power, trash, and wifi for TWO studios)
– Completing the build-out of POT Gardens. This includes outdoor workspace, wedging tables, and a clay recycling station.
Thank you so much for being a supporter of the arts and POT’s mission!

PRESS RELEASE
Brand-New Worldwide Ceramics Organization Raises Money for Charity
Launching on 1st August 2020, Ceramics for Charity is striving to use the perfect mix of art, technology, and community, to organize three online fundraising events per year, with each focusing on helping a different cause.
This brand new format brings together three different experts into one platform with one aim:
From the organizers of The Ceramics Congress, the first virtual ceramic event which has had over 100,000 people, from 195 countries attended in the past 2 years and has raised over $50,000 for their selected speakers. Joshua Collinson will be running a similar virtual conference with all proceeds going to charity.
From the organizers of “Clay for ….” fundraisers series that have provided a platform for clay workers from around the world to support worthwhile charitable causes. The Clay for… series include Clay for Nepal, Clay for Queensland, Clay for Clay Community and Clay for Australia which had 477 artists from 30 countries donate their work for sale in support of the Australian Bushfire relief. Vipoo Srivilasa will be organizing a Global Fundraising Raffle, with all proceeds going to charity.
From the Curator of the First Central China International Ceramics Biennale and the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, which were viewed by almost a million people, Wendy Ger will be organizing a curated online exhibition, with all works for sale, and with 50% or 100% of the proceeds going to charity.
By combining our skills, we hope this first event will raise $100,000 for charities that support Black Lives Matter, Anti-Racism, Human Rights, and Dignity for All.

The People’s Cup Auction is LIVE! Visit our feed @siltstudioltd to view all 47 cups on offer. Each cup closes at a designated time throughout the afternoon and evening of this Friday, July 10th. You can find essential auction details and rules in our IG Highlights. And stay tuned for more auctions to come over the summer as cups continue to roll into the studio for firing!
The People’s Cup is a community art project born out of the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a small business, we needed to find a way to keep our studio fires burning but we also wanted to offer creative respite and give back to the community in these challenging times.
Each cup was hand-thrown by Jay Kimball at SILT Studio, with the surfaces designed and carved by local artists/makers. Even if you didn’t carve a cup, you can be part of this project by purchasing a special piece to enjoy forever. This collection of cups will go out into the world, and each time they’re held in your hands or put to your lips, we hope they’ll remind you of the strength of community. We believe that the objects we choose to surround ourselves with can enhance the meaning of our lives. Beauty with purpose makes a difference.
50% of general auction proceeds will be shared between Carmichael Outreach and the Regina Food Bank. We believe in compensating artists for their labour, so for cups that are part of the Artist Series, 50% of all proceeds go to the artist who carved the design, unless they opted to donate their proceeds to charity which many have generously done.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
